Ineffable

Laetizaene is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean, on the brink of the Celtic Sea. It was discovered by the Celts in mid 300 B.M. (Before Merlin), and inhabited by them for over a millennium. In the early 900’s A.M. (After Merlin) the French invaded and forced out the Celts, colonializing the island in their wake. Their influence combined with the Celtic culture that had established itself made for a unique mix of languages, superstition and folklore. After several centuries under French rule, the people of Laetizaene grew weary and staged a revolution. The country was in a state of perpetual war for three and a half years, until finally on the 14th of August 1414 they were granted the right to call themselves an independent country. A monarchy was set up, drawn from the aristocracy that had already been in place since the time of the Celtic rule. The idea of a Ministry was taken from the mainland, effectively organizing the country and its laws. Since then, the country had been at peace, living comfortably with the knowledge that even though they were a small kingdom, they were flourishing without the helping hands of larger countries.


But at the end of the 20th century, a feeling of discontent was sowing its treacherous seeds. Through the country, a ripple of distrust of the Monarchy spread and slowly but surely an underground organization grew, known only as the Black Soldiers. Of course, many took offence to this, including most of the aristocracy whose privilege and titles were being threatened. As a result, a resistance grew, fighting to keep the Black Soldiers down and secure the Monarchy in its place. Naming themselves the Crown of Roses, they keep a constant lookout for traitors to the crown. Before long, a war was unfurling its long thin roots and spreading across the small Kingdom of Laetizaene, forcing most to stand up and choose which side of the battlefield they would be on.
